2024-2025 has been the second year the LMS has served on the SSYRA Jr. Committee.
It is wonderful to work closely with other media specialists from across the state to identify some of the best books that have been published by authors around the country.

The SSYRA Jr. Committee works to identify the top 15 books that best represent the students in the state of Florida.
Then, a book is chosen by each committee member to write an extensive lesson about. The lesson plans are then shared with FAME members across the state.

As a member of the Social Justice Committee, the LMS regularly participates in book drives and book giveaways in the community. It is wonderful to be able to put books into the hands of community members.

The LMS has been a member of FAME for the past three years. As a member, the LMS has gone to conference to participate in multiple learning opportunities and even presented two years in a row. (See below of the most recent presentation.)
The LMS is part of the SSYRA Jr. Committee and works closely with the other members to determine the top 15 SSYRA Jr. books each year. (2023-2026)
Within the district, the LMS is part of the state mandated Literacy Leadership Team. The LLT comprises of the Media Specialist, the Reading Coach (we currently do not have one), and administrators.
The LLT meets four times during the school year to develop literacy plans that make school-wide literacy a top priority.
The LMS has given two consecutive presentations: "Making Your Elementary Library Work For You" and "Making Your Elementary Library Work For You, Chapter 2". It was a joy to share tips and tricks with other media specialists. Attendees raved about all the freebie files that were given away, as well!
(The sessions were in person, therefore, there is no volume to the videos. Slides were taken and turned into a video for easy viewing.)
