Twice a year the LMS hosts a Parent Night as part of the school book fair. Parents are invited to attend (no purchase necessary) and enter a raffle to win a free book. (Free books come from new and gently used donations that are not being added to the collection.)
The LMS wants all families to feel welcome at this event, regardless of income.
The LMS also secured sponsorships for students who are not able to purchase books themselves. Books and literacy should be available to all. To see a slideshow of the students who received free books, click here.

Once a year, the Literacy Committee and administration host a New Worlds Reading event where families come to participate in a literacy activity. Families receive research-based tips for reading at home, a free book, and a meal.
There is always a great turnout.

The LMS works with the Social Justice Committee of the Leon County Teacher Association to hand out free books to community members. This booth is set up at several community events throughout the year.

During Back to School time, the LMS offers families a chance to sign up for a library card for themselves and their students. The LMS provides iPads for parents to complete the application on the spot.
The LMS provides additional information about public library resources, bookmarks, and free books.
