Spanish/Bilingual Titles

As of August 2024, our Hispanic population made up 16% of our total student population. As such, it is necessary to have books that are offered in Spanish, as well as bilingual titles, to assist with learning English simultaneously. Our Hispanic students come from Mexico, Central, and South America.

In addition to students with Hispanic heritage, we have Muslim students. As such, the LMS has worked to add books that reflect world holidays such as Eid al-Fitr, Ramadan, Dia De Los Muertos. The LMS has also added titles about Holi, Passover, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Lantern Festival, Lunar New Year, and Diwali.

The Media Center Website contains links to Accelerated Reader Bookfinder (where students can find the reading level of any book they are reading); Leon County Public Library (where they can apply for a library card); BEST ELA standards in grades K-5; information about the Dewey Decimal System, and Destiny Discover.

In addition to the titles available in the Sabal Palm Media Center, students can place holds on books at other schools in the district.

The LMS emails the school or schools where the book is/are located, giving the barcode number of the book, the student number for checkout, and any other pertinent information.

The title is then sent through school mail for the student. The student and the student's teacher are emailed to inform them when the title comes in.
